Craving for a proper sit-in space to let Asian food aficionados savour their cuisine, Yanger and his wife Mayo opened a modest dine-in cum takeaway – Maong’s – three months ago. Yo! Vizag takes you through the dining experience here.
The Setting
Set in a quiet residential area, it is the welcoming pleasantness, of both the place and the owners, that creates the perfect ambience to relish a meal at this homely joint. The interiors of the restaurant are serene, with pale cream walls and a single green wall that stands out. Chequered tablecloths on simple furniture only add on to the cosiness of the eatery that feels like a home-stay.
The Fare
Serving a simple, yet wholesome selection of authentic Chinese cuisine, each dish on the simple menu will be a treat to the taste-buds. Featuring on the menu are dishes like Salt and Pepper Squid, Fish Roll, Crispy Calamari and a range of comforting soups, appetisers and noodles. Heading a team of two chefs is Mayo, who oversees the kitchen that is cordoned off from the restaurant. Ever ready to guide, Yanger suggests what to pick and choose depending on the customer’s palette.
Yo! Recommends
The regular favourites include Honey Chilli Potatoes, Signature Wings, Schezwan Chicken Noodles and Five Coloured Fried Rice. For a bit of spice, try the Prawns in Black Pepper Sauce.
Fun Fact
Yanger and Mayo came here from Dimapur in Nagaland 10 years ago. They were the first people in the city to start a food truck called ‘Pepper Yummies’ in 2014.
