A new AU International hostel was inaugurated in Kirlampudi Layout. It is built on the concept of “Go Green”. It is built using hollow bricks, core paper mache, fly-ash, gypsum and waste material.
The three storeyed building was inaugurated by Andhra University Vice Chancellor G. Nageswara Rao. The hostel was planned and built by Vijay Nirman Company. The overall cost of the building came to a whooping Rs. 4.4 crore.
It consists of 27 rooms, 1 guest room and 2 single rooms which can accommodate up to 112 students. Furthermore, it is well facilitated with an open kitchen, a dining area, a laundry room, sports room, entertainment area, a mini conference room, free WiFi and CCTV cameras.
Andhra University already has 3 International hostels accommodating up to 400 students coming from countries such as Nepal, Bhutan, Ethiopia, Mauritius, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, Sudan and Iran.
The AU VC said that they have planned to accommodate more foreign students in the next few years.
