A two-day awareness campaign has been launched by the NSS Unit-I of St. Joseph’s College for Women on Wednesday to spread a word about the spread of dengue and viral fevers in Vizag.
With Officer K. Manikya Kumari leading the way, the students campaigned door to door of every house in Sebastian Colony and Gnanapuram. They have explained the residents the causes and symptoms of dengue. The residents were also briefed about the treatment and preventives. Both the areas have an open drainage system and the residents were advised to keep the surroundings clean.
Also, HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasarao and District Collector Sri Pravin Kumar participated in an awareness rally regarding fevers and sanitation from Women’s College near Old Jail road.
In Andhra Pradesh, the rate of dengue cases in the state has risen to 70 percent in the first eight months of 2018 compared to that of in the corresponding period of 2017. Vizag bears 70 percent of the 2,764 dengue cases in the state.
