The city of Visakhapatnam is gearing up to host the Federation International de Volleyball (FIVB) Beach Volleyball World Tour, for the first time. To be flagged off on 28 February, the tournament is expected to entertain fans over four days, before being concluded on 3 March. The Volleyball Federation of India (VFI) and Leisure Sports Management (LSM), a Kolkata-based sports company, will be organising the event at the city’s popular RK Beach.
A.P. Volleyball Association president P.G.V.R. Naidu, GVMC Commissioner M Hari Narayanan, and LSM Managing Director S.S. Dasgupta among others launched the logo of the FIVB World Volleyball Tour in Visakhapatnam on Friday. Speaking at the event, Mr. Naidu said that volleyball is an extremely popular sport in the coastal parts of Andhra Pradesh. The MLA thanked VFI and LSM for choosing Visakhapatnam as the venue. He further informed that teams from more than 32 countries are likely to participate in the prestigious event.
Meanwhile, for the past two days. the stage is being set in the city to host the Beach Volleyball Tournament. Reportedly, the authorities are setting up 4 courts at the beach. While two of them would be used to host the matches in the tournament, the remaining two would facilitate the practice sessions. The tournament will have games conducted in the men’s and women’s categories.
It may be recalled that previously, Visakhapatnam had hosted volleyball world championship in the year 2005. Earlier, Dasgupta had informed that Federation International De Volleyball will be telecast live by a leading sports network in India.
