Karnataka’s Belgaum now hosts India’s tallest flag

Karnataka’s Belgaum (also known as Belgavi) is now home to country’s tallest Indian flag. The Indian flag was unfurled on Monday at an event which was attended by several leaders, schoolchildren, and leaders of Hindu, Muslim, Christian and Sikh institutions at the Kote Kere front, it has been reported. Belagavi District Minister Ramesh Jarkiholi unfurled the 9,600 sq ft unfurled the flag at 9.30 am.

The flag is reported to be 110 m high from the base plate to the top, with a size of 120×80 ft. The flag at Belgaum is now the country’s tallest Indian flag beating the previously held record by Attari in Punjab. The flag at Attari is 105 m high from the base to top umbrella. Belgaum North MLA

Feroz Sait said the flag weights 500 kg and has rope 8mm thick. The flag was unfurled with the help of an electro-mechanic operating system.

“This is a proud moment for me that my dream of hoisting the tallest flag of the country in Belagavi is coming true. This is an effort to create a patriotic feeling among today’s young generation and make Belagavi city a tourist attraction,” Mr. Sait was quoted as saying by TOI.

Mr. Sait also clarified that it was not to attract tourists but to refresh patriotism with the citizens. The MLA said that the Indian flag will now be fluttering proudly everyday and the individuals can salute it whenever passing by.
