Update (8.5.2017): The City Task Force has arrested two more persons in the city for allegedly taking bets on the ongoing IPL matches. V Venkata Siva Hemanth and N Bujji Raju were arrested from MVP Colony last night on cricket betting charges. They were taking bets for a match between Rising Pune Supergiants and Sunrisers Hyderabad. The police has seized a multi-level communicator box, mobile phones, a laptop, a TV and Rs 1.74 lakh in cash from them.
The City Task Force (CTF) busted a cricket betting racket in the city yesterday. The bust led to the arrest of four persons, with the main accused Kalidindi Raju managing to escape.
The police raided a flat in the city where the gang hailing from Bhimavaram in West Godavari were accepting bets over the phone.
The IPL betting was on between Rising Pune Giants and Kolkata Knight Riders last night. Kalidindi Raju and his accomplices had rented a flat from where they were running their betting operations for the last few months. The arrested accused are Dandu Upendra, Kalidini Sairam Varma, Thumpala Venkatesulu and Gottimukkala Sai Ram Raju.
Found at the apartment was a multi-level communicator equipment box, a laptop, a TV, a printer, 34 line mobile phones, six mobile phones and Rs 2.64 lakh in cash. Betting continues to be an ongoing problem for the IPL. This illegal unit had been accepting bets from 14 punters over mobile phones.
