Statues of prominent personalities have long adorned the city of Visakhapatnam. Familiar faces of eminent leaders can be seen from the stretch of RK beach to popular junctions across the city. These statues connect the past to the present and remind us of the noteworthy deeds done by these eminent figures. Now, as reported by The New Indian Express, a new statue will soon be inaugurated in the city. A 16-ft tall statue of Dr. BR Ambedkar has been ordered by the Department of Culture to be installed by Visakhapatnam Port Trust.
Dr. Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution, was a scholar and a social reformer working towards the elimination of inequality. The bronze statue of the leader will be installed at Convent Junction in Visakhapatnam. Reportedly, the statue has been sculpted by Katuri Venkateswara Rao along with his son Ravichandra and other workers at his Surya Silpasala in Tenali.
About 3,500 kg of bronze was used in the making of this 16-ft tall statue of Dr. BR Ambedkar, which will soon adorn Visakhapatnam. It may be noted that Venkateswara Rao is a famous sculptor who has built many statues of distinguished leaders and prominent personalities.
As per the source, the craftsmanship of Venkateswara Rao was examined and appreciated by an expert committee comprising Culture Centre of Vijayawada, Amaravati CEO E Sivanagi Reddy and Joint Director of Social Welfare R Mallikarjuna Rao. The statue was sent from Tenali to Visakhapatnam on Sunday.
