Iconic Telugu comedian Brahmanandam underwent heart surgery at the Asian Heart Institute (AHI) in Mumbai on Monday. Reportedly, the actor was rushed to the hospital in a critical condition on Sunday, after which he underwent several tests.
Post the surgery, Brahmanandam’s condition is now described as stable
Fondly called as ‘Haasya Brahma’, Brahmanandam is a household name in the Telugu states. Renowned for leaving his mark in more than 1000 films, the popular comedian has been receiving numerous messages from his fans, who have been wishing him a speedy recovery.
Brahmanandam made his debut with Aha Naa Pellanta, directed by Jandhyala Subramanya Sastry in 1987. The actor then rose as on the most sought-after comedians in Telugu and went on to drive memorable roles in films such as Jamba Lakidi Pamba, Vinodam, Venky, Manmadhudu, Dhee, Ready, Dookudu and many more.
Recognising his efforts in the film industry, the government had also honoured him with Padma Shri in 2009.
Brahmanandam, who topped the charts as the highest paid comedian in Telugu film industry, also launched the TV show, Great Telugu Laughter Challenge, last year.
