The Road Transport Authority (RTA) has issued cautionary notices to dealers selling BS III vehicles despite the ban imposed on March 31. The central government banned the sale on these vehicles but some dealers continue to sell these bikes at discounted rates.
Reportedly, dealers are still offering customers in the rural areas free vehicle insurance, helmet and discounts on the total value of the vehicle. Visakhapatnam district RTA deputy transport commissioner reportedly stated that if any dealer is found to have cheated customers by selling BS III vehicles after April 1, they will take stringent action against the same.
“We are keeping an eye on every dealer in and around the city and advising the people not to fall for the discounts. We register nearly 500 new vehicles in the district monthly, but the number has come down after the new rules have been imposed. All our RTA staff have been directed to ensure that the rules are implemented successfully,” he added.
He further stated that BS III vehicles will run on BS-IV compliant fuel and that the RTA will not restrict sale on second hand vehicles. He requested buyers to be alert so they do not get bamboozled by dealers looking to sell their old vehicles. In case the buyer does buy such vehicle, it will be for naught as the vehicles will not be registered for the buyer to use.
Another RTA official stated that the country will move from BS-IV to BS-VI emission norms by 2020. So purchasing BS III vehicles will only hurt the resale value of it. The automotive industry has already incurred a loss of Rs 12,000 crore by keeping nearly 9 lakh BS III Vehicles unsold before the deadline.
For those looking forward to buy new vehicles, steer away from the below listed BS III Vehicles:
