The number of cases booked for driving without license has increased since last year. Not only auto rickshaw drivers but also the college going students are seen violating the rules and not possessing a driving license. All type of motor vehicle drivers including two-wheelers as well as four-wheelers are on rise.
According to the records, 4 out of 10 people caught for violating traffic rules is because of not having driving licenses and majority of them are in the age group of 18 to 24 years, said Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police(ACDP- Traffic) K. Mahendra Patrudu.
Also when looking into the accidents taken place in the city, of the total number of dead, around 10% of them were youngsters and auto rickshaw drivers without a license. Violation of basic rules such as overtaking from wrong side, driving on wrong side and over speeding, leads to accidents on the roads. Reportedly, as per an RTA official among 12 lakh vehicles running on the road in the city, only about 6.80 lakh licenses were issued by the RTA.
Despite the rejection in computerized driving test for the LLR, youngsters come out on streets with their motor vehicles, violating the traffic rules. “We have conducted a number of special drives during the road safety week and observed that about 45% of the motorists who were found violating the traffic rules were drivers without driving licenses,” said ACP (Traffic) Kinjarapu Prabhkar
