The central government has revealed its plans to form a panel of Chief Ministers from 5 states, whose main incentive is to resolve the issues which have risen in the wake of demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 denomination notes.
The Chief Minister’s office, on Monday, stated that the Union Finance Minister, Arun Jaitely called the CM N Chandrababu Naidu over phone and asked him to head the five member committee.
Interestingly, Bihar Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar has also been invited to be a part of the panel. Even though, Kumar belongs to the Opposition, he is one of the few chief ministers to support the Center’s demonetisation move.
Another Chief Minister who allegedly got roped in is Naveen Patnaik, Odisha’s Chief Minister, who publicly championed Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In addition to resolving issues, the panel is also expected to work on more ways to move towards a cashless economy.
The other three positions could belong to Manik Sarkar – Tripura’s Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan – Madhya Pradesh’s Chief Minister and Puducherry’s Chief Minister, V Narayanasamy, though it has not been confirmed.
Other details about the functioning of the panel are yet to be disclosed.
