CM N Chandrababu Naidu, one of the strongest supporters of the demonetisation has stated that he’s deeply disappointed that the country is still facing currency crisis even after 12 days. During a teleconference with the RBI, state government officials and district collectors, he said that he has never seen a crisis remain unsolved for such a long time in all of his political career.
He was one of the few politicians in India who welcomed the demonetisation and urged people to go cashless and convert to digital. His letter to PM Modi asking him to consider digitalisation as a move to curb corruption and vote buying, and questioning the decision to introduce the 2000 rupee note has his ministers claiming it is him who inspired the PM’s decision.
The CM pointed out how he restored normalcy to the city eight days after cyclone Hudhud and he took care that the rest of the days during the Godavari pushkaralu went without a hiccup after the stampede on the first day that killed 30. Talking about his impatience he said, “I’m becoming impatient but we should appreciate the public who are showing patience. To provide relief to the people is the immediate duty before the bankers and the finance officials.”
He stated that bankers should take this as an opportunity to prove their capabilities, that it should be tackled with “cooperation, coordination and efficient action”. Bankers have been asked to set up call centres to keep customers informed. He has asked the bigger banks to share currency with the rural ones. Should they fail to cooperate, he warned them that notices will be served against them.
More POS machines will be added to the 25,208 machines already operated at ration shops. The state officials have been asked to make all transactions cashless. 60 lakh students will be trained in mobile banking and online transactions so that they can spread the knowledge to their family and friends. A fresh consignment of Rs 2000 crore is arriving in the state today.
