Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has urged the centre to provide financial assistance to the scale of Rs 1200 crores as an interim flood relief for the state. The very severe cyclonic storm (VCSC) Titli, which recently made a landfall in the northern districts of Andhra Pradesh, left them battered
and threw the public life into total chaos in Srikakulam and Vizianagaram.Addressing Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chandrababu Naidu wrote, “The Cyclone Titli has devasted these districts and left huge damages to properties, agriculture, horticulture crops, houses and infrastructure resulting in deep distress and misery to the people of these districts.”
Detailing the losses incurred, the Chief Minister further wrote, “The cost of the damaged properties, infrastructure, and other related sectors has been tentatively worked out to be around 2800 crores.”
Naidu also mentioned that the State Government has already started the relief measures on war footing and he has personally been supervising the rescue, relief, and restoration processes.
He requested the central government to liberally sanction the relief so as to minimise the misery of the people.
Crossing the shore with a wind speed of 160 kmph, Titli caused a rampage in the affected areas. Numerous electric poles and trees were uprooted by strong winds. Reportedly, the power supply too, to more than 4000 villages was affected in Srikakulam district. The telecommunications networks have also been hit in these areas.
