The much-awaited floating solar power plant at Mudasarlova in Vizag was finally inaugurated by the Chief Minister, Chandrababu Naidu during his visit to the city on Thursday.
The 2MW floating power plant built on the Mudasarlova reservoir is expected to serve a great deal in generating power in an eco-friendly way.
A part of the Smart City initiative, the floating solar power plant has been built over 20 acres, with an investment of around Rs 11.3 crores.
Floating solar panels are now gaining a lot of popularity across the world. Their advanced technology is helping the world look at renewable energy in a new light. These solar panels can be deployed in cities to save land space and utilise water bodies such as lakes or reservoirs which they can shade the water thus reducing evaporation.
The solar panels will be mounted on top of the floaters which will hover on the water. They are deemed to have higher efficiency over the ground installed panels due to the cooler temperature of the water, thus providing better performance.
On Thursday, the Chief Minister also inaugurated the all abilities park at the beach road. Established over a site area of 2156 sq mt, the park has been designed specially for those with special abilities.
