An unfortunate incident has come to light from Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh. A 23-year old bride was brutally assaulted by her husband on their wedding night. The incident took place in Motharanganapalli in Gangadhara Nellore on Saturday night when Rajesh Reddy, a school teacher, resorted to some inhumane acts in order to torture his wife, Sailaja Reddy.
As per the reports, Rajesh informed Sailaja regarding his impotency and threatened her not to disclose the matter anywhere else. Indian Express quoted Sub-Inspector G Rajasekhar as saying, “It seems Sailaja went out of the room at night and told her parents that Rajesh was impotent which enraged Rajesh and he attacked her. He beat her mercilessly, bit her, and punched her leaving her face swollen and disfigured. Her lips are swollen and bleeding. He kicked and thrashed her for several minutes until her parents heard her cries for help and rescued her. She is undergoing treatment at a local hospital. We have arrested Rajesh Reddy.”
A report in The News Minute, quoted Sailaja’s brother, Loknadh, as saying, “After she went back in, Rajesh threatened to kill Ramya because she told her mother and tried to suffocate her with a towel, and then sat on her chest. He hit her. He tried to strangle her. There was a knife kept there for an apple. He attacked her with that as well.” He also added, “There was noise from the room as a glass had fallen to the ground. When the parents tried to intervene, he (Rajesh) didn’t open the door. When they finally broke open the door, she was lying in a pool of blood on the floor.”
The victim, while speaking to the media, said, “He punched me on my face and kicked me on sensitive body parts, besides biting me all over and inflicting injuries with a knife.”
Sailaja is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Tirupati and the police have informed her condition as stable.
