The 36th Mahanadu of Telugu Desam Party [TDP]’s annual gathering will start tomorrow in the port city. The city is all lit to welcome the delegates of TDP for the plenary. Andhra University’s Engineering College grounds is selected as the venue and the main entrance being in Maddilapalem, the city police will have a tough time managing the traffic and pedestrians. 2001 witnessed the last Mahanadu gathering here and now 2017 brings the TDP’s delegates to the city again.
As told to the sources of TOI, AP Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu chose Vizag as the venue for this Mahanadu mainly to assure its residents that the development of Amaravati would not be at the cost of Vizag.
The party central committee member, TD Janarthan told TOI, “After bifurcation, we have conducted Mahanadu in Tirupati and Hyderabad. Now, with decentralization being the focus both of the party and the state government, Visakhapatnam naturally became our choice for hosting the annual event. We will make sure the message of decentralized development reaches the delegates and the people of Vizag through them”.
While the delegates are getting ready to attend the annual gathering, the officials are working their best to keep the city clean and presentable. Hoardings and fliers can be seen at all the main junctions in the city while the streets are clean. The plants and trees on the junctions and dividers are being watered and even a road is being laid on the Andhra University grounds. The street lights are being cleaned and checked to make sure they work perfectly.
ADCP (Traffic) K Mahendra Patrudu told The Hans India that the major challenge for them is to handle the Maddilapalem Junction for the three days. Admitting that there would be traffic clogs during the three day event, he said that the police has advised motorists not to use the road from Siripuram to Pedda Waltair and from Rama Talkies to Maddilapalem for the three days.
