The noteworthy initiative of the Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and Ministry of Railways will be at the Kothavalasa Railway Station from today. The exhibition on wheels titled ‘Science Express’ is running on the theme of Climate Action this time around.
Flagged off in Delhi on February 17 by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu, the train will be stationed from May 20 to 23 at Kothavalasa. Students and general public can in this time visit the air-conditioned train that has 16 coaches. The Science Express is aimed at creating awareness in both children and adults alike. The entry to this train is free and it dispels awareness on climate changes in India and how to protect the environment.
Divisional Commercial Manager of Coordination, G Suneel Kumar has reportedly stated that the Science Express will create awareness on how climate change effects the planet and how mitigation and adaptation will help save it. For the last three phases, the train has run on different themes and this year this theme was chosen because of climate change’s effect on bio-diversity.
Coach 1 in the train showcases an understanding of climate change and coach 2 shows the impact of climate change. Adaption is shown in coaches 3 and 4 and mitigation in coaches 5 and 6. International negotiations on climate change are being showcased in coach 7, handprint in coach 8. An exhibition by the Department of Bio-technology in coaches 9 and 10, followed by an exhibition by the National Innovation Foundation in coach 11.
The Science Express will remain open between 10 AM and 5 PM.
