CM Jagan promises better internet in AP for work from home professionals

In an initiative to augment the Work From Home (WFH) concept, AP Chief Minister, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, directed concerned officials to boost the provision of high-speed internet connectivity to villages. This decision came in on Tuesday following a review of the projects, taken up by the IT Department, and digital libraries. This review was held at the Chief Minister’s office.

The initiative looks at helping those individuals who are working for corporates and have the facility of working from home. However, this may be difficult for them to do while staying in their villages. Therefore, digital libraries will be set up at all village secretariats and Rythu Bharosa Kendras (RBKs). These will be central hubs in the villages of AP, where the work from home individuals can continue their remote working

schedules with a stable internet connection.

The officials, attending the review, ensured that these digital libraries would be ready by December 2021. Every digital library will consist of three desktops, UPS, desktop barcode printer, scanner, laser printer, software, anti-virus software and unlimited bandwidth internet along with other minimum facilities. Additionally, furniture like chairs, tables, and racks will also be provided. The State Government will be investing Rs 140 crore for funding this project and aims at setting up 430 digital libraries in the first phase.

The Chief Minister also believes that the inclusion of more digital libraries would be imminent to students, for their education requirements.  Furthermore, he said that a storehouse of educational resources also would be made available in the same.

The policy aims at setting up digital libraries in every village panchayat to ensure that people are comfortable enough to work from there. The step also focuses on implementing measures to provide uninterrupted internet networks to all village secretariats and Rythu Bharosa Kendras (RBKs).

Accordingly, the Chief Minister has given the officials a time frame of eleven days to come up with a plan for the grounding works. Hence, they were given tasks to identify the necessary lands to set up these digital libraries before the said date.
