C/o Kancharapalem is now eligible to apply for the National Awards

In what comes as a heartening news to film lovers, Telugu film, C/o Kancharapalem has finally been allowed to apply for the National Awards. The film was earlier rejected for the same as its producer, Praveena Paruchuri is a US citizen of Indian origin.

The latest development comes in the wake of several appeals by Praveena, which expressed disappointment over the film being left out from qualifying to the prestigious award.

“So sorry Venkatesh Maha. Care of Kancharapalem, your hard work and talent is not eligible to be recognized at the Indian National Film Awards because it was produced by me – a US citizen although of Indian origin. I failed you (sic),”  she tweeted earlier.

The producer even called out to TRS leader KTR, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Nara Chandrababu Naidu, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, questioning the rule that made her film ineligible for the award. “Dear Visionary Leaders @ktrtrs@ncbn@narendramodi , #CareOfKancharapalem was made in India, by Indians, with Indians, released in India and appreciated by Indians, yet is not eligible for #nationalfilmawards. If this is the reason for ineligibility, Why @makeinindia ?? -Producer (sic).”

After this appeal, TRS working president, KT Rama Rao, appealed to the Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Arun Jaitley and Minister of State Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore to review the appeal by C/o Kancharapalem’s producer.

“I appeal to Union I&B Minister Sri @arunjaitley Ji and MoS @Ra_THORe Ji to kindly review the below appeal. National awards are a matter of pride for all filmmakers. An award cannot be denied for a #MadeInIndia product because of archaic rules that are redundant in today’s India (sic),” KTR tweeted on Saturday.

Responding to KTR’s tweet, Minister of State Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore wrote, “Dear @KTRTRS ji, my officer has spoken to @paruchurimd. These are NATIONAL FILM AWARDS & require producer or at least one co-producer to b Indian My off’r has guided @Paruchurimd on the possibility of her application fr same. She can also apply fr

Int competition section IFFI 2019 (sic).”

In response to Rathore’s tweet, C/o Kancharapalem producer Praveena wrote, ” #CareofKancharapalem with @RanaDaggubati @SureshProdns has been allowed to apply to #nationalfilmawards. Thank you @Ra_THORe Sir and @KTRTRS Sir for your expedient response. I hope we will continue to have discussions about permanently amending this rule.. #LoveTeluguCinema (sic).”
