A woman head constable was killed in a fatal road accident on her way to election duty in Vizag on Thursday. The deceased, identified as M. Lakshmi Kantham (46), worked at the PM Palem police station and was assigned poll duty at a booth in Akkireddypalem in the city.
Reportedly, the unfortunate accident took place near the Punjab Hotel junction on NH 16 when a speeding SUV hit the constable’s two-wheeler from behind. The strong impact of the collision caused several severe to the victim. The collision also caused injuries to another bike rider in the vicinity of the accident. Reports claim that Lakshmi Kantham breathed her last while being transported to a hospital for treatment.
With the SUV driver fleeing the spot immediately, the police have registered a case and are investigating the incident for further details. CI J Srinivasa Rao stated that the culprit will be taken into custody and punished severely for driving the vehicle recklessly, thereby causing the fatal accident.
Lakshmi Kantham, a mother of two children, was a resident of PM Palem. Colleagues and police officials offered their deepest condolences over the loss. Sharing that Lakshmi Kantham had lost her life on the way to duty, the police personnel paid tributes to the head constable from Vizag.
