In what might result to be a relief to many, it has been reported that the convent junction in Visakhapatnam would soon be getting a new flyover constructed. Deemed to possess advanced features, this flyover is expected to ease out the traffic congestion in the convent junction and the surrounding port area.
With Port Trust Chairman M.T Krishna Babu’s efforts paying a dividend, the officials of National Highways Authority of India handed over the construction responsibilities of the flyover to M.V.R Infra.
While the project is expected to be completed with an estimated cost of Rs 40 crore, 50% of it would be sourced under the Sagar Mala Project. The remaining half would be sourced jointly by NHAI and the Port Trust.
This flyover, which is expected to stretch over about 700 metres, is proposed to offer a much easier transit for the vehicles which would be travelling into or out of the port.
“The flyover is expected to be constructed within a year’s time. The project would facilitate a hassle-free transit to those commuting in the area,” Srinivasa Rao, PD, NHAI, Visakhapatnam, was quoted as saying by Eenadu.
The project at the convent junction, in addition to the one at NAD, would be yet another attempt in Visakhapatnam to ease out traffic congestion at prime junctions.
