The Covid-19 situation continues to subside in Vizag with the city reporting a low number of cases daily. On Wednesday, 18 August 2021, 70 new cases of Covid-19 were reported in the city. The number for the state is also on a gradual decline, with AP only reporting 1,433 cases on Tuesday. The positivity rate in Vizag has also been low, hovering between 2 to 2.5 percent while the recovery rate is close to touching 99 percent.
But with the Covid-19 curve yet to flatten, district officials are worried about the possibility of the number of cases increasing again. Hence, extensive preparations are being made by the district administration to effectively tackle the third wave if and when it arrives. As of Wednesday, 1,53,965 cases of Covid-19 have been recorded in the city, with the active number of cases being 534 while 1,52,333 have recovered. The overall death toll is at 1,098. From the past 3 days, the recovery rate of Vizag has been inching towards 99 percent (about 98.94 percent on Wednesday), higher than that for the state (about 98.54 percent). A daily increase of about 0.02 percent is being noted in the recovery rate.
Andhra Pradesh is making good progress as well. The Covid-19 positivity rate was recorded to be below 2 percent on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
With the third wave threat around, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, has asked health officials to be ready for it and to ensure that there is no shortage of oxygen beds, cylinders or concentrators.
