DGP RP Thakur and Vizag Police Commissioner Mahesh Chandra Laddha have inaugurated the first cyber crime police station in the city on Friday.
The DGP mentioned that the police station would comprise advanced mobile forensic tools, social media analysis tools, video analysis tools, forensic tools, password detection tools along with a few other sophisticated types of equipment to take down cyber offenders. The station inaugurated at the VUDA Complex would have a circle inspector, three sub-inspectors, 12 constables, home guards, and a technical team as well.
DGP Thakur said, “While in 2016, the recovery percentage in cybercrime cases was 0.18 percent, last year it was 2.6 percent. In the current year (till date), the recovery rate has been 16 percent. Till now, Visakhapatnam cyber crime police have arrested about 90 cyber crooks. With the newly inaugurated police station, the investigation procedure will improve and property recoveries will be better.”
The city is on the top place in the aspects of cybercrime cases. And this is not just in the state but amongst the whole of South India. 576 cyber crime cases have been registered in the city in the year 2017, while it was 442 in 2016. So far in 2018, 406 cyber crime cases have been registered in Vizag. Until the new cybercrime police station inaugurated in the latest, the cyber cases were reported at a cyber crime investigation cell at II town Police Station.
