As per the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the district of Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh is in for some heavy showers in the coming days and have warned of another Cyclone in Vizag. The IMD has warned regarding a low-pressure region that is being formed over the central part of the Bay of Bengal. The officials informed that this region is likely to move towards Northern Andhra Pradesh and Odisha resulting in heavy rains in the regions.
The low-pressure region is expected to develop into a depression in the next 48 hours, causing climatic changes in the affected regions. A report in skymetweather.com predicted that the intensity of rains is likely to go up on the 18th and 19th of October. The report also stated that post these dates, the depression will most probably move towards Telangana and Maharashtra causing heavy showers in those regions.
The officials are taking concerted measures and are also issuing warnings to various sectors. The APEPDCL has issued orders to various branches alerting them to take all the precautionary measures. The shift-operators have been alerted and the substations have been provided with diesel generators. They have even advised that the citizens must be well equipped with all the safety measures in order to face any possible after-effects of the rains.
Incidentally, it was during this period in 2014 that Visakhapatnam’s most catastrophic cyclone, HudHud, struck its shores causing a wide scale damage.
Another Cyclone in Vizag? Hopefully not!!
