The coastal regions of Andhra Pradesh are being hit by yet another cyclone within a span of a few months. With Cyclone Phethai making a landfall in the state, the skies have opened up in Visakhapatnam too and the district has slipped into its gloomy apparel. Here’s an update on Visakhapatnam weather.
Speaking to Yo! Vizag, an official from the Cyclone Warning Centre said, “Cyclone Phethai has crossed the shore around 2.30 pm today. Making a landfall about 25 km south of Kakinada, the cyclone has been causing strong winds and heavy rainfall. However, it is likely to weaken and turn into a depression again gradually. Visakhapatnam weather is likely to remain similar and the district will witness rains until tomorrow. The winds too are expected to persist, albeit at lower speeds of 50-60 kmph.”
As the incessant rain and gusty winds continue to bother the citizens here, officials from Visakhapatnam have sent out messages to the public. Andhra Pradesh HRD Minister, Ganta Srinivasa Rao, who interacted with fishermen today, informed that the state government has taken different measures to be in readiness for the cyclone.
Visakhapatnam District Collector, Pravin Kumar, said that the officials here will be receiving real-time updates from RTGS in addition to the updates provided by the IMD bulletin. He further passed orders to various departments in the district to be vigilant in order to avoid any consequences that might arise due to the Cyclone Phethai.
The fishermen have been warned from venturing into the sea until further orders are issued. Several flights and trains have also been canceled from Visakhapatnam as part of the precautionary measures for Cyclone Phethai.
