Daler Mehndi was recently arrested in the case of human trafficking. He was sentenced to jail for 2 years by a court in Patiala, Punjab. However, Minutes after he was sentenced to two years in jail, the Punjabi pop singer was out again on bail.
As reported, Daler Mehndi told reporters outside court. “I have been granted bail. We will appeal to higher court.”
The case accusation is on Daler Mehndi and his brother, Shamsher Singh. They have been illegally sending people abroad disguised as members of Daler’s troupe by charging hefty “passage money.” The singer, on a recent trip to the US in the company of an actress, had allegedly “dropped off” three girls at San Francisco.
Soon after the case against the two brothers was registered, the Patiala Police got 35 more complaints on the same case against the two brothers. One of the many complaints was that they had taken “passage money” from the victims saying they will help them migrate to the US “illegally”, but had failed to do so. The Patiala Police has also raided the offices of Daler Mehndi at Connaught Place in New Delhi.
Also, it was reported that in 2006, Patiala Police filed two discharge petitions stating Daler Mehndi to be innocent, but the court had upheld that the singer is prosecuted as there was “sufficient evidence against him on the judicial file and scope for further investigation”.
