A Deputy Tahsildar from Vizag got busted in an (Anti-Corruption Bureau) ACB raid on Monday. Reportedly, the corrupt officer was trying to collect bribes from people to issue a family membership certificate. The ACB officials seized the cash. The accused has been taken into custody for further interrogation.
According to reports, one of the victims, Ms Annapurna, had approached the Tahsildar office recently for a family member certificate. Her father, who was also an employee, had died earlier. She applied for the certificate in order to receive monetary support of Rs 40 lakh. However, the money has not been released due to the lack of certificate proof. After knowing about this, Deputy Tahsildar from Maharanipeta, Vizag had asked for a bribe of Rs 4 lakh. He finally agreed to issue the certificate if the victim pays him a sum of Rs 3 lakh. The victim consented to pay the amount on installments basis, with the first installment being Rs 60,000/-.
The victim has complained about this issue to the Anti-Corruption Bureau(ACB). Acting on the situation, the ACB team caught the Deputy Tahsildar red-handed while taking the bribe. Reportedly, he was on his way to the airport on some official work while he was caught taking the first installment of Rs 60,000 near his home. He was later taken to the nearby police station. Further clarity on this issue is yet to be revealed.
