District Collector Pravin Kumar held a review meeting yesterday with district officers on Swachh Survekshan.
He appealed to citizens to use the ‘Swachhata app’ and take an active part in helping Visakhapatnam rank better in Swachh Survekshan 2017.
Vizag ranked 5th in the Swachh Survekshan survey last year and this year it competes with 500 other cities. Despite the size of it being even larger than Vijayawada and earning it the title of the largest city in Andhra Pradesh, Vizag lags behind in the use of ‘Swachhata app’.
Citizens using iPhone or Android can download the app free of cost and use it to register their grievances. The GVMC officials promise to initiate action on the same within a specific time frame.
Collector Pravin Kumar stated that the GVMC had held several programmes in the previous year. The Swachh Survekshan team are managed in three different phases. In the first two phases, teams are sent in by the Government of India and they checked various parameters like doing door-to-door surveys and documentation. In the next phase, they observed the roads, slums and toilets in different areas.
The third phase is where the citizens come in. Citizen feedback is requested through IVRS and Swachhata app. Collector Pravin Kumar said that so far 1 lakh citizens have given feedback through the IVRS hotline (phone no. 1969) and with only two more days to go, more feedback is expected.
The Swachhata app only saw a lukewarm response with only 32,000 downloads and the target is to add atleast 10,000 downloads more so that the city gets a better rank than last year.
