In view of the upcoming Indian Navy events, Presidential Fleet Review 2022 and Milan 2022, Vizag District Collector, A Mallikarjuna IAS, conducted the first review meeting with officials from various concerned departments. The meeting was attended by officials from the Navy, Police, GVMC, amongst others, and discussed elaborate arrangements and works to be taken up for the beautification of the city. It should be noted, after hosting the International Fleet Review (IFR) in February 2016, the Eastern Naval Command (ENC), headquartered in Vizag, will now host the Presidential Fleet Review along with MILAN-2022.
Reportedly, the Collector informed that the Indian Navy’s President’s Fleet Review 2022is scheduled on 21 February, 2022. He added that a host of VVIP’s including the Prime Minister, the President of India, Union Defence Minister, Chief Minister and a number of senior officials will attend the event. Mr. Mallikarjuna also informed that India is going to host Milan 2022 from 25 February, 2022 to 4 March, 2022. He added that delegates from over 40 countries, and over 20 naval ships, will be part of the programme.
During this first coordination meeting, from the Indian Navy, Captain Ambuj Khare and others gave a PowerPoint presentation on the customary programmes of the Indian Navy’s President’s Fleet Review (PFR) 2022and Milan 2022, to the Collector. They also requested officials to take up cleaning of drains, and road repairs as part of the beautification process.
The Presidential Fleet Review is a ceremonial and stately inspection of the naval warships by the President of India. Milan 2022 is a biennial exercise that was started in 1995 and was being held at the Andaman and Nicobar Islands until 2018. Originally, this exercise was supposed to take place in Vizag in 2020 but had to be postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Now, it will be conducted for the first time in mainland India in 2022, with increased scope and complexity.
