On the orders of GVMC Commissioner M Hari Narayanan, the officials will soon take up 100% door-to-door garbage collection in Vizag city. Set to begin from 24 February, the drive will be conducted with vehicles and a meticulous process in all zones across the city.
As reported by The Hindu, Mr. Narayanan informed the officials that the dry and wet wastes from households, especially from the interior areas of Zone I, V and VI, should be collected using vehicles. The timings of the door-to-door pickup, routes, and points of collections should be informed to the people, the GVMC Commissioner further told. Ordering the officials to carry out the works of road sweeping, drain cleaning and door-to-door garbage collection effectively, he asked them to prepare an action plan on the seasonal diseases and execute the same from 1 March.
It may be recalled that the GVMC Commissioner had earlier reviewed Akkayyapalem and Dondaparthy areas of Wards 12 and 15 in Vizag. Apart from penalising those found guilty of public urination, Mr. Narayanan had also imposed fines on shop owners for failing to maintain hygiene in their surroundings.
He further passed orders that plastic bags lesser than 0.50 microns thickness must not be used and instructed each shop owner to have separate garbage bins for the segregation of solid and wet wastes. The Commissioner had emphasized the need to work collectively towards maintaining cleanliness in the city.
