The State Government has given orders to the Prohibition and Excise Department to constitute an Armed Task Force. The task force will be a state-level team to deal exclusively with drug cases. The shall comprise of officials from the police department and will be armed. Director of Prohibition and Excise Department let this be known on Sunday.
The discussions for the formation of the task force are on. The details of the team strength, infrastructure, logistics, technology and permissions are under talks. The details will be announced after the proposal is tabled on August 3. The team will be working with an inter-department modus operandi. Government agencies like ITDA, Revenue and Forest Department, Women and Child Development etc will be roped in.
Under the radar are the hemp cultivation in the agency areas of Andhra-Odisha border, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram etc. While the department probing the case is already on alert, crack down will happen soon.
The instances of government officials being involved in the drug cases has not been ignored. Some officers have been put under the scanner already.
