Though a few electric two-wheelers are spotted moving on the roads of Vizag, the task of promoting electric vehicles (EVs) and motorcycles to decrease vehicular pollution in the city would be difficult as there is lack of basic essentialities such as charging stations which help in charging the vehicles.
In the latest, the Energy Department of Andhra Pradesh has been preparing a plan to promote the advantages of using electric vehicles in the state. As part of the plan, 50 EV charging stations would be set up initially, in various cities across Andhra Pradesh.
The 50 EV charging stations would help in promoting the use of EVs so that around 1,000 to 1,500 electric vehicles could be introduced in the next few months. The Electric Department has made deals with a firm in April to set up the 50 stations in Amaravati, Vijayawada, Guntur, Vizag, Tirupati and Tirumala.
Speaking to TNIE, CMD of AP Transco and MD of AP Genco, K Vijayanand, said, “The EV charging stations are almost ready. In fact, the one coming up at the Interim Government Complex in Velagapudi, will be ready for operation in a week.”
Charging points were set up at the EPDCL corporate office at Seetammadhara in Vizag.
The stations would also help in pulling revenue to the State Government. The EVs would begin from this month. About 300 EVs would be delivered in the first phase, starting from July.
