Reportedly, Facebook is looking to test a new feature called ‘Add Voice Clip’. This new feature will appear in the status update composer menu. It will allow users to record a short audio snippet and use it as a status update.
Facebook is testing the voice clips feature within a small percentage of users in India because of the fact that India
has 22 popular languages. Also, they believe typing text in a second tongue can be difficult and India’s population of 1.3 billion is highly appealing. As reported by TechCrunch, a spokesperson from Facebook said, “We are always working helping people share and connect with their friends, and family, on Facebook in ways that are authentic to them. Voice Clips gives people a new medium through which to express themselves.”
The Mark Zuckerberg led company believes that voice clip will enable people to share much more as it would be more intimate than text and much easier than a video recording. Voice Clips would let people share very personal content, wherever they may be. It doesn’t need a person to be at any special place, like the “check-in” feature. Also, it doesn’t have to be always appealing as a video or a photo, the tech-giant feels.
In addition to this, the report also says Facebook is building a smart speaker, code-named Aloha, to be released as a portal as Facebook believes it’s easy to imagine users dictating Voice Clip status updates to Portal without opening their phone or checking if their words were properly transcribed.
