The Visakhapatnam local authorities have been working round the clock to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. Visakhapatnam District Collector V Vinay Chand ordered that new fever clinics must be set up in the rural areas of Visakhapatnam and containment zones starting from 20 July 2020. The Collector instructed that each ward must have a fever clinic, with a doctor available at all times. Areas, where the availability of doctors is scarce, must appoint a Registered Medical Practitioner at the clinic, said the Collector. The instructions were given during a review meeting attended by the district’s top officials at Andhra Medical College.
GVMC Commissioner G Srijana was informed to make RMPs available to assist at the Fever Clinics in every ward if the need arises by Visakhapatnam Collector. Further, the Collector said that the Fever Clinic staff can use 104 ambulances. He said that COVID-19 tests must be conducted at the Clinics in the Very Active Containment Clusters. Instructions were given to conduct awareness sessions to ward secretariat employees and volunteers across the district.
Giving further instructions on medical facilities in Vizag, Collector Vinay Chand stated that the authorities must ensure all doctors are available for duty at the Visakha Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS). He said that the primary contacts of all the patients admitted at VIMS must be tracked down, and complete details of the patient must be recorded during their sample collection for COVID-19 tests. Instructions were also given to inform the higher authorities in case of any problems in the testing laboratory.
The Collector further instructed the officials to purchase any equipment necessary for the hospitals including oxygen lines, lights, fans etc. He stated that all incoming patients must be checked for a pulse first, and directed the officials to have a 108 ambulance on stand-by round the clock in case of emergencies.
