Vizag police have arrested two individuals in the murder case of former Gajuwaka Corporator Bogasamudram Vijaya Reddy in the city.
Speaking at a press meet on Tuesday, Commissioner of Police Mahesh Chandra Laddha informed that the accused, Hemanth, had chalked out a plan to murder Ms. Reddy. Reportedly, Hemanth had met the victim at her Akkayyapalem residence for sale of her plot. He visited Ms. Reddy at her apartment on 25 February, when her husband was not at home, under the pretext of paying an advance amount.
As things took an ugly turn, Hemath then repeatedly attacked Ms. Reddy with a knife to murder her. He then shifted her body into a bathroom and took a bath before leaving the place while wearing clothes of the victim’s husband, Vishnu Reddy. In addition to stealing 20 tolas of gold, Hemanth also took Ms. Reddy’s phone and her car, which helped the police trace him, Mr. Laddha said.
Reports further claim that Hemanth handed over the stolen gold to one Radhika, who tried to sell it away at a local jewellery store in Vizag. However, the duo learned that only 105 grams of the gold were original while the rest was fake. Hemanth and Radhika sold the gold for Rs 2.75 lakhs to distribute the sum between them.
The police traced Hemanth and Radhika on the basis of call data and CCTV footage. After arresting the two in the murder case, they seized cash worth Rs 2.75 lakhs and Ms. Reddy’s car.
