In two separate incidents, as much as 810 kg of ganja was seized by the officials of the Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB) in Vizag Agency area on Monday. The accused in one of the cases was arrested.
On Monday, a team of SEB officials seized 710 kg of dry ganja from a pickup van at Venkayyapalem in Ananthagiri Mandal. The pickup van was found without any registration plates or keys. The accused had apparently managed to flee before the SEB team arrived.
In another case in Vizag Agency, SEB officials seized 100 kg dry ganja and arrested a man at Gorapur Junction in Dumbriguda Mandal. The officials also seized the car being used for transportation of ganja and a mobile phone from the accused.
SEB, of late, has been tracking down and seizing a lot of ganja being smuggled from the agency areas. Meanwhile, Visakhapatnam District Police is also conducting razing operations to stop all ganja cultivation and has accordingly urged the tribals to support this initiative and pick up other crops to grow. Ganja trade near Vizag has become a hot topic, with a lot of local political parties talking about how the district, especially the areas along with the Andhra Pradesh – Odisha Border (AOB), have become a Ganja hotspot.
Due to the recent police operations on ganja smuggling, ganja dealers in the state have become fearful and hence, have stopped supplying to Telangana.
