Human Resource and Development Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Ganta Srinivasa Rao, checked with the facilities and surroundings at Andhra University in Vizag, on his surprise visit.
Vice Chancellor of Andhra University, G. Nageswara Rao, and Registrar, V. Umamaheswara Rao accompanied the minister as he visited the hostels and the buildings.
On coming across a heap of empty wine bottles at a broken-down building near the Satavahana hostel, the HRD Minister got furious on the chief warden. Srinivasa Rao mentioned that the University in Vizag is turning into a place for anti-social activities and ordered the demolition of the broken-down building.
Empty wine bottles were found near the Sri Krishna Devaraya hostel also. The minister pointed out chief warden’s failure in ensuring cleanliness at the hostel surroundings.
After interacting with the students in the hostel room, the minister had food at the Science College Mess along with some students. He gave some instructions about the quality and taste of various food items.
Addressing to the media, Srinivasa Rao said, ” It is unfortunate to find the University, which had produced many distinguished personalities doing great in their lives, today became a place where anti-social activities are being carried out.”
He warned the officials that strict actions would be taken if they do not care to eradicate the ill activities in the University.
The Minister mentioned that a master plan would be made for upgrading the beauty of Andhra University by improving facilities like sanitation, developing parks and landscapes. A review meeting would be arranged where the Vice Chancellors of all universities in the State and Principals of Government Colleges would be attending for bringing out ideas on improving the teaching, results and sanitation systems.
