Focussing on saving lives, the Oakridge students launched the ‘Give way to Ambulance initiative’ in Vizag. As part of this multi city-wide initiative, the students, in Vizag, approached people on the Beach Road and spread the message on the importance of giving way to the ambulance and respecting the urgency of its siren. Former Indian Test Cricketer, Cricket commentator and mentor to the IPL Franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad VVS Laxman, also lent his support to the ambulance initiative.
Sharing views on the significance of giving way to an ambulance, school Director, Nalin Srivastava said, “Many people go through a traumatic experience when ambulance ends up with the patient not reaching the hospital on-time. Around 1.5 Lakh people are killed each year in traffic accidents, about 400 fatalities a day. 2 out of 10 patients die in an ambulance before reaching the hospital in India. More than 50% of heart attack cases reach the hospital late. It is said that chances of survival from a heart attack or a life-threatening injury reduce from 70% to 7% in just 4 minutes delay. The initial treatment to the patient in the very first hour also referred to ‘Golden Hour’ is very critical.”
The ‘Give Way to Ambulance’ initiative in Vizag has been receiving support from several people including Chairman and Managing Director of HSL and Rear Admiral (retd) LV Sarat Babu, Chairman Varun Group Mr. Prabhu Kishore, and Vizianagaram District Collector Dr. Hari Jawaharlal among others.
