Women TechMakers is Google‘s initiative for women in technology. It is a program that provides visibility, community, and resources to women in the various phases of their career.
While it supports students and freshers in beginning a career in technology, it also helps those already working in the industry to stay in the field, continue to grow and successfully climb the corporate ladder. Alongside, it empowers women in senior roles to build their own startups.
There are currently 30 WTM chapters across India with about 9000+ women in them. The International Women’s Day celebrations in Bangalore on March 2nd kickstarted a series of similar events across all the chapters. The theme of the IWD this year is LIFT AS YOU CLIMB. It encourages women in senior roles with more stable careers to talk about their challenges and encourage younger women to move up the ladder.
Women TechMakers Vizag is celebrating IWD on 23 March. The chapter is led by Usha Ramani Vemuru, a tech entrepreneur herself. She’s the founder of Gurujada IT Solutions(www. Gurujada com), a web based startup from Vizianagaram. “I’ve been part of other WTM chapters and found that there are none in Visakhapatnam. It’s a powerhouse of resources and opportunities and every woman in tech should be a part of such a community. ” she says.
The chapter is reaching out to various technology organisations in the city so that they involve their teams, leverage the community and make the movement of empowering women in tech more impactful.
