Dasari Narayana Rao was born in Palakollu and is a well know Film Director, Film Producer, Dialogue writer & Lyricist. He was known for his works in Telugu cinema and few Hindi films. He was well acclaimed for directing more than 151 films and having produced over 53 films, for which he even holds a Limca World Record. He has acted in Telugu, Tamil and Kannada languages during his career.
His films mainly emphasize on social injustice, corruption and gender discrimination. He has received National Film Awards for Kante Kuthurne Kanu –Special Jury Award / Special Mention (Feature Film) in the year 1998 and for Meghasandesam – 1982 for Best Feature Film in Telugu. He received 4 Filmfare Awards out of which Gorintaku (1979),Premabhishekam (1981) were highly appreciated and even got Filmfare for Life Time Achievement in 2001. He was also awarded Doctorate “Kalaprapoorna” from Andhra University for his contribution to Telugu Culture and Telugu Cinema in 1986.
After celebrating his 75th birthday on May 4th this year, it comes as a sudden shock to many of us that he is no more. Dasari Narayana Rao died in Hyderabad on 30 May, 2017, due to a prolonged illness. It was due to infection in the Lungs and Kindney , he was admitted to undergo a surgery earlier this year. His health deteriorated and at 7 pm on 30 May, 2017 due to heart failure he passed away in KIMS Hospital.
