GVMC, which introduced the e-bicycle sharing system at the RK beach stretch in Visakhapatnam, is now planning to set up more e-bicycle stations across the city.
Reportedly, the 12 areas which are likely to get the new bicycle stations include the city railway station, RTC complex, Simhachalam foothills, both the entries to the Zoo Park, Kailasgiri ropeway, GITAM, and VMRDA Central Park among others.
As part of the GVMC’s Public Bicycle Sharing (PBS) system, 12 e-stations will be set up under the project and 120 e-bicycles will be made available through them in Visakhapatnam.
Once set up, the users can rent the e-bicycles from any of the stations and then return them at any other e-bicycle stations. The users can travel up to 35 kilometers on this e-bicycle on a single charge. Users will have to pay Rs.20 for renting the e-bicycle for an hour and after that, they will be levied additional charges.
As per the information provided by GVMC officials to Times of India, the stations will be equipped for handling cash and digital transactions. They also told that an exclusive application will be designed to provide information on the bicycle sharing system and the application will be linked to Google Maps and the users will get real-time tracking of the e-bicycles.
It has also been reported that a smart card facility will be provided for users who don’t have access to smartphones. To keep track of the operations of the public sharing system on a real-time basis, a central control system is also going to be set up by GVMC.
