As a step towards curbing the harmful effects of vehicular pollution, GVMC is all set to introduce e rickshaws into the streets of Visakhapatnam. It is a known fact that the pollution in the city is on the rise and the need of the hour is to adopt newer technologies and measures so as to avoid further repercussions.
During the Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu’s visit to the city for laying stones for Smart City projects in 2016, the CM has asked GVMC to move ahead with the “Green living, smart business” slogan.
The smokeless e rickshaws have the potential to run for as many as 100 km after being charged for 7 hours. The fact that it just costs around Rs 20 for this specified charge, might encourage many individuals to adopt this mode of transport. Another incentive that is being offered by the officials to promote e-rickshaws is that there would be no need for registration or a license to ride these eco-friendly carriers. It has also been informed that these vehicles will be priced between Rs 1.30 lakh and Rs 1.80 lakh.
The e rickshaws would help in controlling the vehicular pollution in the city. With diesel autos being replaced, there would be a lot of control over the smoke pollution.
