Handloom lovers in the city, rejoice! The Pochampally IKAT art mela 2017 has kickstarted at Lions Club of Visakhapatnam. The 8 day long eco-friendly, handloom exhibition was inaugurated by Jayasree, wife of Member of Parliament Kambhampati Hari Babu Dr G Srijana, the Joint Collector of Visakhapatnam lighted the lamp. Godaba Prema Kumari, President of BJP Visakha Mahila Morcha was also present.
On the occasion, Jayasree stated, “It’s nice to see various apparel, particularly Ikat Fabrics, silk and cotton saris, to be showcased for the handloom fashion connoisseurs.” Dr Srijana, the Joint Collector stated, “Handlooms are part of an age old Indian tradition – element of Indian culture and rich artistry.” Chikka Krishna, the founder-chairman of the Pochampally Handloom Park stated, “We support the artisans and local community who have been passing on their skills for generations. Promoting creativity and originality, each design is a result of individual artisan’s creativity which is influenced by the local traditions and cultures.”
The handloom expo is exhibiting various exclusive handloom products like handmade bed & home linen, dress materials, silk and cotton saris created by the wavers of Pochampally and put together by designers. Everything from home textile to apparel fabrics, stoles, scarves, saris, duppatas, table mats, cotton shirts, kurtis, handbags and more are found at this exhibition.
