Dressed like a diva in black, Regina Cassandra was in the city for an event. In a brief conversation with Yo! Vizag, she was surely ‘on cloud nine’, with the success of her latest release ‘Jyo Atchutananda’, that is keeping cash registers ringing at the box office. She talks about her foray into Bollywood and more about tinsel town.
Flying high but still rooted to the ground!
Revelling in the success of her recent flick ‘Jyo Atchutananda’, Regina is all smiles when asked as to how it happened. “It’s a film that’s very close to my heart, as it is totally related to my real life character. Probably, the way Srini Avasarala had narrated it to me did the magic. Fast forward to the time I have grandchildren, I can proudly boast about my role in this film ” she laughs. “It’s not a regular offbeat role; that is just there for the sake of a dance sequence or two. It is more of a performance oriented role that has got a lot of scope”, she adds.
On breaking stereotypes
“Telugu cinema is slowly transforming for good. People are trying new subjects to make good cinema. Most importantly, audiences are welcoming experimental movies with open arms. I feel blessed to be part of good projects with more scope for performance, rather than just being stereotyped as a glamour doll”, says Regina.
Lined up projects
This leggy lass is running high on success and bagging interesting roles we must say. She’s all geared up to foray into Bollywood, making her debut with Anees Bazmee’s Aankhen 2, sharing screen space with stalwarts of Hindi film industry like Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor and Arjun Rampal. Quiz her how, and she’s quick to revert, “A call from the casting agency threw me into a literal happy shock. They happened to see my pictures somehow, narrated me the script and that’s how things fell in place and I landed an offer. Could I’ve asked for a more amazing debut than this? ” Shoot begins early next year and currently she’s busy filming two multi-linguals ‘Maanagaram’, ‘1945’ and a straight Telugu film ‘Nakshatram’.
“I am completely focused on my current projects right now, until my Bollywood shoot is flagged off”, she says, ending the conversation on a sweet note.
