Showing solidarity with those protesting against Vizag Steel Plant privatisation, actor-turned-politician and JanaSena Party (JSP) President, Pawan Kalyan visited the city on 31 October 2021. Extending his support to the ongoing agitation, the actor, on Sunday, led a massive rally from the Visakhapatnam Airport to Kurmannapalem. A large swathe of his followers and party members jostled to give him a grand welcome. Later on, the JSP Chief presided over a public meeting organised near the Vizag Steel Plant gate. Boosting the morale of the protestors, Pawan Kalyan gave the speech against Vizag Steel Plant privatisation.
#1 The actor began his speech by quoting the poem ‘Nenu Saitam’ from ‘Mahaprasthanam’. The poem was written by the famous writer, Sri Sri.
#2 Remembering the sacrifices made by people of Andhra Pradesh to get steel plant, he said that activists and students had fought and 32 people lost their lives to police bullets in the agitation.
#3 Noting that JanaSena Party has been opposing the strategic sale of Vizag Steel Plant, he mentioned that he had discussed the issue with Central Home Minister, Amit Shah. He said that the Home Minister agreed to meet him, not because of his party’s representation in the house, but due to the support of the public.
#4 Hitting out the ruling party in the state, he said that it has 22 MPs in the Parliament yet they are silent. He further added that the state government should take the onus and not merely blame the Union government.
#5 Stating that though he lost in the elections from Gajuwaka, he is still determined to fight for the well being of the people from Vizag.
#6 In order to take things forward, Pawan Kalyan demanded the state government to convene an all-party meet to discuss the matter.
