In the midst of snarling traffic near old Gajuwaka in Vizag, lies an oasis of peace and tranquillity. Standing tall is the serene Holy Cross Church, a haven for spiritual enhancement. The foundation stone of this pink-hued architecture was laid in February 1995, by Cardinal Johannes Joachim Degenhardt(Archbishop of Paderborn, Germany). The murals on the walls inside showcase the life of Jesus. Sculptures of Jesus and Mary welcome the devotees. The prayer hall is an expansive arena with sculptured walls and the sacred holy cross. The presbytery and parish hall was inaugurated 2 years back.
The evening mass starts at 6:00 PM every day. Adorations take place every Friday and Wednesday, the latter being dedicated to St. Jude. The fest here is celebrated with pomp and glory in last week of October every year. The significant aspect of this church is that Novina is celebrated for nine weeks, unlike most other churches where it is celebrated for nine days. Festive days like New Year, Christmas, Easter, Whitsun and Good Friday see a lot of the devout flocking the holy place. Socially committed, the church runs affiliated schools located in the rural section of Vizag for the underprivileged children.
Rev. Bro. K Emmanuel (architecture), Parish Priest of the church Rev. Fr. Thomas Manalil and Father of the Church Fr. Thomas are committed to keeping the flame of faith at Holy Cross alive
