Hovercrafts to be launched in Visakhapatnam to promote water sports

Update (20/6/2017): The much awaited project will most likely be completed by the end of October. The state government has paid an amount of Rs 60 lakh to bring in four hovercrafts from Russia. The GVMC is ready to provide 3700 sq yard of land opposite Hotel Sea Pearl on Beach Road. Hoverdock will pay the GVMC Rs 15 lakh per annum. Hoverdock is one of the corporations that signed an MoU at the CII Partnership Summit in 2016. Two five seater, one seven seater and one nine seater hovercraft will be introduced in Phase-I. Passengers will be charged Rs 300-350 per head for a 15-30 minute ride.

Last year, the Vizag hover club announced the setup of hovercrafts in Visakhapatnam and people have been eagerly waiting since. But now, the wait is finally over for  people loving water sports as hovercrafts are all set to be launched soon in the City of Destiny. Get ready to experience the water and the land rides in a whole different way.

Hovercrafts will be launched at R.K beach at Visakhapatnam, making Vizag the first ever hovercraft destination in India. Akshara Enterprises in partnership with AP Tourism will be operating the facility in Vizag. In addition to this facility, they also plan to set up recreational attractions like beach volleyball, zorbing balls, and all-terrain vehicles.

Akshara Enterprises is also planning to install portable food courts, which will serve food from international fast food outlets to traditional seafood dishes and street food making it a hangout place for food lovers as well. Markets selling a wide range of regional handicrafts from all over state and night markets are to be set up too.

Christy Hovercraft, a Russian hovercraft manufacturer, has been partnered with for manufacturing the hovercraft in Visakhapatnam itself keeping the campaign ‘Make in India’ in mind. This would also provide employment for hundreds of people in and around the city. Moreover, the promotion of water sports in the city will also help in developing the economic conditions.

Hover dock also plans to venture into ecotourism in places like Papikondalu, Durga Ghat, Amravati and Rajahmundry, which is good news as we are craving for new tourist places too.

Get ready to experience a ride on something which is neither a bike nor a boat but which can be both. So, clear your weekends and mark the dates as the most exciting water sports are to be launched in Vizag soon. Can’t wait.
