The safety of the movie watchers has come into question after a fire accident burnt down two movie screens in Vizag this month.
The famous Sri Kanya Theatre at Gajuwaka in Vizag area blazed in a fire accident on September 17. According to the reports, the fire started due to the short circuit of the cell towers located on the movie theatre. The two screens in the hall got completely destroyed. Around 5 fire engines were deported at the theatre to bring the fire under control. It took 2 hours for the fire department to suppress the fire.
Fire safety consultant B Madhu suggested, “It is high time the authorities reviewed the clearances pertaining to fire safety issued to all cinema theatres in the city and their compliance with the norms.”
Speaking about the alarm systems, ” We need to have a working, well-maintained fire alarm system as per the safety codes. Sprinklers inside the theatre and common areas ensures protection round-the-clock, whether the premises are open or closed on any given day. Along with the presence of fire controlling equipment, training the staff in the theatres is also important. Madhu said, ” “The staff should be trained regularly in fire control measures at the workplace. Smoke management systems, fire-proof interiors, fire resistant doors, adequate care on theatre architecture and provisions for quick evacuation in an emergency should also be ensured.”
