Packaging is a growing industry, being diverse in so many different sectors. India has immense potential in packaging and hence, an Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) has been established at Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) Bhavan in Atchutapuram, Visakhapatnam.
The institute was inaugurated on Thursday by the Special Secretary to the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry, S Kishore IAS. During the inauguration ceremony, Mr. Kishore spoke about the role that the packaging industry plays in the growth of many companies in the world. He also highlighted the importance of specialised training in packaging which will boost the reputation of this industry and increase exports from India.
The newly-appointed Vice Chairman cum Managing Director of APIIC, JVN Subramanyam IAS, was also in attendance. He thanked the Central Government for setting up an Indian Institute of Packaging in Visakhapatnam. Mr. Subramanyam talked about the growing demand in the packaging industry and how the introduction of specialised courses in packaging will increase employment.
Indian Institute of Packaging Chairman, SN Venkatraman, IIP Deputy Director, N Nataraj, Symbiosys Technologies Chief Executive Officer (CEO) O Naresh Kumar and other prominent personalities also participated in this event.
Indian Institute of Packaging is a Government institution, under the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry, which offers a two-year postgraduate diploma in packaging. This institute has seven permanent campuses – New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and now, Visakhapatnam.
