It could be noted that the Naval Dockyard has transformed a lot over the 50 years. It all started with the boat repair shop in the 1940s for the maintenance of the Royal Indian Naval Ships and today they provide technical support to the Ships and Submarines in the Eastern Naval Command. In the 1950s the Boat repair shop was upgraded into a Base Repair Organization, and in 1968 the construction of the Naval Dockyard started.
Now the yard is being developed into a smart dockyard with the adoption of automation, IoT (Internet of Things) and the development of ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) solutions.
